I'm writing this review based on trying on the product and talking to a representative from MH, **I have not tested the product in the field.**
I love my old MH Sub Zero down jacket but I needed a notch up in warmth for Denali this spring so I ordered the new Nilas. The first thing that struck me was that this jacket is thin! I made the mistake of ignoring the fact this is described as a 'lightweight' jacket. It might have warm 850 fill down but there's just so little of it - it's not the thick, puffy down parka I'm used to. A representative from MH confirmed that this jacket is up to the tough standards of big mountains like Denali and Himalayan peaks 'when used with the proper layering system underneath.'
Final word to buyers: beware that this is truly a lightweight down jacket. It might work wonderfully at altitude but I didn't want to take my chances. I returned the jacket. It's a beautiful jacket with all the features that I love but as I won't be running up mountains like Uli Steck I feel this lightweight down jacket is not enough for me.
