Really love the jacket, just wish I didn't buy the sea salt color. It show every stain and gray blemish you stike upon it. I think the ski lift did that. It's also turning a brownish color in some areas. I regret that If I wear this people will think I've never washed it.
Quality:
Wiped out on my snowboard once and slid through a bush of some sort. Jacket didn't excessively tear, but you can tell a bush that didn't have thorns reached out and petted me.
Still maintains it's warmth and water repellency. Powder skirt is pretty cool, keeps the snow out. Zippers are flawless. Lots of pockets and breathing vents.
Fit:
I am 5'9 and 160lbs, and it fits a tiny bit large... which is perfect if you are going to layer a fleece or down jacket under it. Really love the thumb hooks on the arms too.

I had the Snowtastic jacket last year. The large fit tight enough that I had a hard time fitting a mid layer on cold days. The Alakazam this year is almost perfect sizing and I like the quality even better than the Snowtastic. Big enough to handle a full blown puffy down coat as a mid layer on extremely cold days but not huge or anything. I'm really happy with this coat. Wish the sleeves were just a bit longer as the integrated cuffs are useless to me as they restrict blood flow after a few runs. Almost perfect, though.
I would recommend this product.

I bought this Jacket site unseen, I had tried on multiple Mtn Hardware Jackets at a local retailer to get an idea on Sizing. I purchased this jacket to use as a ski shell, so I went a size up since I planned on wearing layers beneath
First the good:
-Performs beautifully in the snow
-Sheds water and heat
-Doesn't leave me feeling like I'm wrapped in a plastic bag
-Plenty of zipper pocket storage.
-The blue is bright as all get out and my GF can spot me from a mile away in a sea of black at resorts.
Now the bad:
The fit in the body as expected, but for some reason the sleeves are really short. They come to the very start of my wrists but there is no slack, so arms extended leaves me with short sleeves, not ideal for a jacket that is marketed to active persons. Additionally the cuffs have a thumb cutout to keep the sleeves down, but again the sleeves are short and the pull from the thumb cuff puts enough pressure between my thumb and forefinger to make it uncomfortable.
Performance and style wise, I'd give this 5 stars. I put the rating above at 3 due to the fit, most notably the sleeves. I am 6 feet tall, 190lbs with an athletic build. For a jacket marketed to active folks, the fit on this one misses the mark.
Bottom line - a solid jacket, I'd happily recommend it providing you try it on and confirm that it either fits you like you want, or that you can deal with the slightly irregular sizing.
I would recommend this product.

I bought the Men's Alakazam jacket in Autumn Orange for Colorado winter skiing and climbing. The jacket is very sharp and is quite comfortable - I like the look and the feel. My first test of the jacket was Mt Sherman, a Colorado 14er known for high winds which I hiked in the beginning of December. Wearing the Alakazam plus a goose down jacket as an under layer kept me warm. We encountered 60mph gusts on the mountain and the jacket did a great job of cutting through wind.
The pit zips are really nice and I did not sweat in this jacket which tends to happen with my other jackets. The inner cuffs are a great idea but are too short for me, as I have long arms. This jacket is top notch.
I would recommend this product.

i received the jacket the other day and it looks and fits great. can't say how it holds up in the snow yet but knowing MH products i'm sure it will be great
my one complaint is very minor - I bought the russet/autumn orange version of this jacket and the pictures lead you to believe it is two-toned, when in actuality it is solid orange. i am guessing that they used the two-tone coloring to highlight the soft vs. hard shell sections in the images, but i think a darker midsection would have looked killer! again, very minor but want purchasers to be aware of this.
I would recommend this product.

The Alakazam is nearly a homerun. It's the most technical jacket I own and it's clear a lot of thought went into making a wintersports jacket that will handle everything from wide open up to full-on powder shots on the way down. Strategicly placed hard shell on exposed areas keep the moisture out, while the stretchy softshell body offers some insulation and great range of motion. Plus, the softshell just feels so much better in the cold than crinkly hard shell material.
The outside waist pockets will work with a pack, barely. The upper chest pockets are perfect for a beacon and phone. There's also a few interior pockets. One big one for keeping gloves or goggles and another with a passthrough for your tunes. The hood is there when you need it, and the little arm pocket is good for a lift pass or a lighter.
My most favorite feature is also the biggest disappointment. The cuffs have thumbholes so you can keep snow and draft out of your sleeves. But, they are just a little short for me. They might be perfect for you, though.
Big mountain out west, or resort laps in the east, I was lucky enough to get one mid season last winter and used it for both environments, even some rain, and the thing Alakazam kept me comfy.
I would recommend this product.

This is a good choice for a skiing shell. It is not solid and stiff as I usually like in a a shell. I really like the stretch panels. The pockets are well designed. The fit is great for a tall and skinny person. It does not have a great neck gator. The jacket is light and easy to wear.
I would recommend this product.
