A little baggy, but not at all bad. Very comfortable and not too thick. Could work well in spring and maybe cooler summer conditions. I have not worn them hiking or anything yet, but just wore them around to get a feel for them. Very nice.
I would recommend this product.

not happy at all....a full size too small...hate the pocket design when wearing a pack....and the belt design is junk....snags up and it's a pain to undo in a hurry....material seems tough but these pants are function follows form.....enough with the Columbia/Gucci desing and bring back the practicality i fell in love with 20 yrs ago
I do not recommend this product.

Having trekked for many years and used Mountain Hardwear gear I thought I was buying a another great product. A mistake. The design just doesn't work. The belt arrangement slips and is not secure. The dual press buttons don't clip together easily and are not easy to get at and the fly zip, being up under the belt because of the way the belt works, is not easy to get out without undoing everything else. The bottom of the trousers are to loose and the lack of a press button on the zip on the bottom of the leg is a loss. Overall not a patch on earlier versions. I won't be buying these again.
I do not recommend this product.

I have another pair that I wear all the time so I decided to get a second before they go "out of print." Four front pockets offer lots of versatility and relative safety. I put my point-and-shoot camera in lower pockets where it is protected from dust but ready to pull out at a moments notice. I wore these pants for 3 weeks in Turkey and took 3,200 pictures so the pants got well used. The key snap in the left lower pocket allows me to use that pocket for "stuff" without worrying about losing my keys. I like to be able to zip my wallet into a front pocket when traveling abroad. When I am home, I keep my phone my lower pocket and car keys in upper one so that my phone doesn't get scratched by the keys an no one gets butt-dialed.
These pants wash and dry quickly, hold up to abuse well and are very comfortable. Love em! I may have to by third pair after reading my review :-)
I would recommend this product.

I have used many previous models of Mountain Hardware pants. This new model did not perform as well as some of these past models nor as I had expected. The new belt buckle doesn't keep the webbing belt from slipping. Since the belt overlaps the zipper fly, to the to use the fly for its intended use, requires the belt to be loosened first. The entire belt/zipper fly design is over built and impractical to use. The material and other classic features seem to be performing well as I have already used the pants while guiding two backpack trips so far this season.
I would recommend this product.

I have had a prior version of the portino pants purchased years ago; I love them. I recently purchased several additional pairs, hoping for the exact same superior quality and performance. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. The clasp mechanism in front has evolved to a very cumbersome 3 part process, and the belt is also difficult to adjust, so that the fit around the waist is impossible to fine tune, and they tend to slide down constantly. The felt ring around the upper border of the pants has been cheapened. I would not recomend that anyone purchase the current version of these venerable pants!
I do not recommend this product.

I bought these pants to replace my tried and tested cotton BDUs that I've relied on for the past 10 years. I've had the opportunity to hike over 40 miles in these pants since I recieved them in conditions varying from 90 degree sunny days to cold cloudy days with rain, hail and snow. On the hot day I was comfortable hiking without having to remove the lower legs from the pants. On the cold rainy day I noticed the pants did a good job repelling the moisture from the mist and light rain which kept me hiking longer before having to put on my rain gear.
The pants fit well, are comfortable and seem to be solidly constructed. I've noticed that the integrated belt system seems to loosen itself some while I hike but theres enough of a pigtail to tie in a knot to prevent this. The lower legs are quite wide to allow their removal over boots but also have a bit of a swing to them as you walk. The six mesh pocket design is great. The cargo pockets aren't huge by any means but accommodate a granola bar, handkerchief or cell phone and keep it tight against your leg. The back pockets are mounted low enough that I'm able to easily access them while my pack is on but I wish they had some type of closure, just to ensure nothing falls out.
I look forward to wearing these pants more on my future hikes. The removable legs combined with the mesh pockets and quick drying fabric will ensure I'll be the first one in the water whenever that opportunity presents itself!
I would recommend this product.
