I recently purchased the Shaka 55 and even put it through the ringer the same day. I ventured out to Mount Jefferson for a 2-day climbing trip and MAN, was I impressed with the design and functionality of the Shaka 55. Firstly, the huge J-Shaped zipper on the fron of the pack makes accessing the pack simple and easy especially when you have pickets, axes, poles, etc. lashed to your pack. I was easily able to fit my clothes, sleeping bag, food, water, helmet, and climbing harness into the main compartment with plenty of room to spare. Secondly, the two compartments on either side of your hips works perfectly for attaching your ice tools to your pack without worrying about stabbing yourself (or the pack for that matter). By using those reinforced pockets, all of my protection was secured tightly the entire trip allowing me to move freely in tight areas. Other small features that I love are things such as the independent water pouch (keeps stuff dry), the drawcords which open and close really easily, and finally the neoprene stretch pouch in the front. It is perfect for stashing snacks, maps, lights, gloves, etc. for quick retrival. Overall, this is by far the best pack I've ever purchased and would recommend this product to anyone everyone that camps/climbs. I couldn't be more happy with my purchase and look forward to taking my Shaka 55 to many more summits!
I would recommend this product.
