Purchased this bag to replace a heavier and much bulkier synthetic for a late May backpacking trip to southern Utah where I wasn't expecting anything below freezing temperatures.
- Impossibly small. Seriously. Packs down to less than two softballs.
- Lightest thing I could find that was still a bag. I don't like quilts.
- Extremely high quality down. Cheaper down can quill stab you, especially through matching cheap fabric. Not so with the Phantasia. Just fluffy soft downy goodness. I couldn't even feel quills when I tried.
- Pretty true to its temp rating, with a Sea-to-Summit Adaptor and an old Kelty foam pad, I slept comfortably through light frost at high elevation.
- Waterproofing is well done, during cold temps condensation from my breath actually pooled to either side of my head on the sleeping pad. Didn't soak through the bag whatsoever.
- Adequate room inside for me at 5'5" & 120lb. You're not going to be able to pull your knees up inside the bag, but that's kind of the point.
Both of these were just mildly irritating little things, and nothing that would prevent me from buying the bag again.
- One of the drawcords for the hood is a thin ribbon instead of an elastic cord. The ribbon can slide more easily through the plastic stopper toggle thing.. Wasn't a problem for me, except during very cold nights when I needed it to stay tightly closed. I tend to move around a lot and the movement slowly pulled the cord looser.
- The bag itself is SLICK. I need to shop for a new pad anyway, but this bag was so slick on my old Kelty foam inflatable that with more moderate slopes I found myself sliding downhill. I couldn't use my feet to "inchworm" back into place as they'd just slide on the pad material. Took some creative wiggling techniques as I really didn't want to stick my hands out to maneuver. I ended up flipping the old pad upside down as it had little rubber dots all over the bottom.
In short, a stellar bag at moderate price. Extreme packability and weight for a mummy, super high quality down, perfectly fair temperature rating, and a good night's sleep. :)
I would recommend this product.
