In my old sleeping bag, I got some serious damp-out on a ski trip up Canwell Glacier in the Alaska Range in February. After that, I decided it was time for an upgrade. The Ghost caught my eye with the combination of integrated Dry.Q shell and dry down. This bag did not disappoint! The -40 rating makes this bag perfect for interior and northern Alaska from October to end of April and the rest of the state during winter.
On a recent 10 day crossing of the Harding Icefield in Southcentral Alaska, this bag kept me warm from the first night to the last night, even when we were forced to bivy (not enough space for the tent) in a heavy snow storm. I would highly recommend this bag to anyone who is looking to do long winter expeditions. Damp-out is no fun (ended up being a trip ender for me on Canwell Glacier as I could no longer stay warm enough), and this bag completely eliminates the issue. The integrated dry.q shell is perfect: it prevents damp-out from condensation inside a tent and makes bivying an easy option without extra gear.
The bag is large when stuffed in the stuff sack, but still easily fits within the sleeping bag compartment on my backpack (Norrona 125L Recon Synkroflex). If you have an expedition-oriented pack, then I doubt you'll have trouble getting this bag inside.
I would recommend this product.

I can credit the Ghost with keeping me alive. Nights on a Himalayan winter become so cold as to be painful but I slept well (comparatively) snug in my Ghost. Even on a night we were forced to bivy on the Diamir glacier, the Ghost keep me safe. Thanks Mountain Hardwear!
I would recommend this product.

I've used this bag for the last 12 days in Northern Norway and I'm beyond impressed. This bag is absolutely bomb proof. Throughout the whole trip the bag preformed flawlessly. The bag is totally water proof and wind proof as advertised. In the morning the bag would be covered with ice as expected but all I had to do is brush it off and it was ready to stuff. It is by far the warmest bag I have ever owned. At one point the temp dipped down to -43 F and I stayed warm and comfortable all night. I did not dry the bag out the whole time I was out and it maintained it's warmth every night. The moisture control in this bag is outstanding. The bag does dry out quickly once turned inside out and hung. The only cons I have about this bag are very minor. The zipper can be a challenge at times due to the fabric catching in the zipper. The second thing is the stuff sack. This bag is a beast so it would be great to have a slightly bigger stuff sack. Every morning seemed like a fight to pack away the bag. I had to switch to a different stuff sack that wouldn't make me break a sweat while putting it away. Overall, this bag was a valuable and reliable piece of gear. My friends had different sleeping bags so they were hating life at night. MHW has set the standard with this bag.
I would recommend this product.
